Forever Family

Well Internetz, it has been just over a week since the girls moved into our home and our lives.

It has been exciting, exhilarating and exhausting.

I won't pretend that it has been all sunny days. We have had our moments and more than once I have cried in the bathroom wondering if I could do this.

The girls, especially our youngest, are testing us right now to see how much they can get away with and perhaps, more importantly, if we'll still love them when they do.

On Monday we had our seven day visit with our worker and afterwards we went out for dinner as a family. Irish Boy and I arranged to have this cake for dessert since it was a special day.

This is it, Internetz. The good, the bad, the ugly - all of it. We are a Family Forever.

PS - The cake was even better than it looked!

I've heard that adopting older children can bring those sorts of challenges. I know you are committed to these children and that you already love them, so you can conquer this transition time. So happy that you have your Forever Family.

Hooray for Family Forever! The fact that your girls are having a little bit (a lot?) of a struggle just shows how much they need you. Hang in there, get lots of support, and I'm always a fan of the bathroom breakdown when things get tough.

Feel free to email me at ebrooke631@yahoo.com (I moonlight as a child therapist). I don't want to give you a bunch of unsolicited advice, but I would be happy to offer some support.

What an exciting time for you and the girls. Of course they will test you. All kids test adults. Perfectly normal.

I'm sure that you are all going to go through some growing pains. Just think that one day you can look back upon these times and chuckle.
PS - love the cake!

I feel like it was just last week that you were announcing your decision to pursue adoption at all! Amazing year for you guys.

If there weren't challenges, I would say it's not normal. :) I know whatever you face, you'll face it together and you will make it through. I am SO happy that you finally have your forever family. You are incredibly deserving.

Just remember that you will cry more tears of joy than sorrow or frustration.

So excited for you!

It's such a major change and adjustment for you all, I think it's only normal that there are going to be difficult times! Which, by the way, I'm sure there are also with biological children! You will be fine and the cake looks fantastic!

I am sure there will be lots of ups and downs. This has to be hard on the girls, and like you said, they want to test you to make sure you still want them, even when they test. You are doing amazing. I am so happy for your forever family.

The cake---what a wonderful idea! Glad you are hanging in there and that it sounds as though there have been more "highs" than "lows" during this time of adjustment. YAY for your new family! :)

Stumbled upon your blog. Love the cake...I too believe in forever families. I'm glad you are honest about hard days, or sharing you feelings in general. I am new to blogging and trying to get comfortable with being open and honest. I would love to hear your thoughts on some of my topics. I hope you are enjoying the additions to your family.
