Something's Rotten In The Suburb of Ladyville

Don't be alarmed, Internetz, it's not my dreaded period. Not yet anyways.

I highly debated posting this. I know that I'm already a bit in your face with my 'stuff' - but I'm honestly desperate here and could use some help.

Let me preface all this with the fact that this is not infertility related - but it's definitely lady related. Guys, avert your eyes!

In the last 24+ hours I have been itchier than a mosquito bite down in Ladyville. My hoo isn't only blue - it's itchy too! (Sorry.)

TMI alert - I KNOW. But seriously, have any of you girls dealt with this? Wear sunglasses and a fake mustache in your comments below - I swear I won't blow your cover!

It can't be an allergic reaction to the progesterone or shagging the smurf (estrace) since I've been using them for too long. No change to laundry detergent, shower gel, etc.

For the first time in *cough* a while, Dr. Google has been consulted for something other than pregnancy symptoms. Of course "yeast infection" (FUN) was the first thing that came to mind but there isn't the discharge that Dr. Google attributes to that (and says it looks like cottage cheese? Holy hell!)

There's no burning, it doesn't hurt to pee, I'm just itchy and uncomfortable as all get out.

I know what you're thinking - get thee to your doctor! Unfortunately my family doctor is an hour away (I love her and even after we moved I refused to give her up) and I'm not due at the fertility clinic until later this week. I really don't want to go to a walk-in clinic however rest assured if this keeps up I will see my doctor.

But for now, help! What the heck can I do? Obviously since I still don't know what if anything is going on in the ol' ute I'm reluctant to use medications.

But short of having my hand permanently down my pants or attempting to scooch across my floor like one of my dogs (there are some visuals for you, eh?) I need to find some relief.

Ideas, mocking, sympathy, and help are all welcome!

As for those thinking I've hit a new low in my posting? Yes, yes I have.

I read a posting on a fellow IFer's blog a while ago, can't remember who but she had dealt with an itch for months and kept trying to treat it with yeast infection meds and even went to see a Dr and those meds didn't help when a completely different type of Dr. told her it was jock itch (there was no discharge, just itching) and sure enough she treated it with jock itch medicine and it cleared up! Hope that helps? Eek!

sometimes vagisil helps. you can get bacterial infections down there to that can cause itchiness.

I was going to mention what the previous poster did... I know that Murgdan dealt with it (a really hysterical post). I really do think you need to get yourself to your doc... Feel better!

I've had the same "issues" and Vagisil helped. But if you use it and you are still having those problems, then I would definitely see a doc. Good luck! I know how annoying and uncomfortable that problem can be.

Every time I start to feel an itch I immediately pop some candida. It is usually a homeopathic remedy for yeast infections. I don't wait to find out if my small itch will turn into a yeast infection and just start popping the little candida pills until it goes away which is usually within 24 hours. Sorry. Itching in Eden is not fun. :-(

My sunglasses and fake mustache are on! LOL!
I deal with this off and on, usually as AF approaches (and if we've been doing a lot of BD'ing.) It usually last for two days, at the most. I've never been treated for it but find that staying super clean helps (rinsing after going potty, etc...) Hope this helps! Good luck!!!

If you've reached a new low in posting, I've reached a new low in commenting:

I had an allergic reaction to scented maxi-pads which sounds awfully similar to what you're experiencing. As pp mentioned, hopefully some Vagisil will help ease the itching.

Also, I found a washcloth run under cold water and then applied to Ladyville for a few minutes will bring immediate relief. You won't look very ladylike laying on the bed spread eagle with a cloth over your parts, but it does help.

Ugh... always somethin', huh?

Murgdan's post on this was quite hilarious, as previously mentioned.

I feel similar just after my period - I have some glaxal base/corti cream an OB gave me & it works wonders.

good luck - hope you're feeling better soon!

I know itching is one of the side effects of the progesterone that I use, maybe it takes a while to build up?

Is there anyone you can just give a call to at the RE or at the docs? I know a lot of times I call the nurse at my RE and she tells me to try X and if it doesn't work, come in.

Eat lots of yogurt, saurkraut, and other things with live cultures. Probiotic tablets are also very helpful. I would never use a real medicine for such a problem, because the yogurt etc works so well! Eat enough yogurt (or take the tablets) and it will be gone by tomorrow.

Yes! Towards the very end of my 2ww after my first IVF, the itching was INSANE one night. Same thing, no discharge or anything yeastie related, but damn! I thought I was going to go crazy. I was on progesterone and estrace as well and thought it might be a reaction (even though I had been on it for almost two weeks already and had no reactions), but I wondered if it was from the (TMI alert!) leakage (so gross) from the suppository (hopefully I am not the only one who had that little present). I was wearing pantyliners, but I guess it was kind of damp down there (I know...). but I found that keeping everything as clean and DRY as possible helped. I'm so sorry! I completely understand.
Hang in there!!!!

I occasionally have unxeplained itching in ladyvill too.. a cold wash cloth helps, and then (because i've itched it), I slather on neosporin, so that if there is any type of infection (from the scratching) it will be counter acted...

Also- I've only had one yeast infection, but never any discharge with it... so it could be that!

Vagisil Screening Kit - you can get it from Walgreens, CVS, Rite Aid - whatever drug store is in your area. It should tell you what you have.

What Amy said!!

Keep everything clean and dry. The discharge and moisture can cause havoc.

Also, (and as Murgdan found out too) I always blow dry my whole body after I towel dry to make sure everything is dry before I put clothes on.

Oh my! I totally feel your pain! Having an itching down in Ladyville is HORRIBLE! I actually have no other advice that the others haven't said, but I do hope it goes away soon!

Oh no! You poor thing. I've been there (last June) and was literally out of work for a week b/c of it. It could never be determined if it was allergies or yeast so I took diflucan to kill the yeast and popped benadryl like nobodys business to cover both. I also took luke warm oatmeal baths per my doctors instruction as this was the ONLY time I had an temp relief. I also stayed indoors in the cool and pretty much was spread eagle on the bed to keep things cool down there as not to make it worse with the heat. I am so sorry you are having to go through this. Hang in there hon. Hugs!

I have had a yeast infection at least twice while going through the funness of the IVF protocol. I don't get the tell-tale cottage cheesiness either...

Once I had it at the same time I was taking the progesterone, and so I took a break from it and used the one day stuff. I figured one day off of progesterone wouldn't be that big of a deal. I did not check with my doctor, though... a doc can also prescribe the oral meds...

While I've not experienced the Itchies with any kind of hormonal treatments (as I've never done them) I can say from past experience that keeping the area dry is mui importante. Cotton undies, looser bottoms. Is the itch internal (inner labia or vagina) at all, or just on the mons? Do you shave? I get CRAZY itchy about 2-3 days post-shave. Have you been doing anything different? Changed soaps? I realize this comment was a ball of suggestions and questions, but I hope they help.

Sending you lots of calm, soothing, non-itchy Vah-jay-jah vibes!

I was on the progesterone for weeks before I had a reaction to it. At 7 weeks I was fine, at 9 weeks there was a definite reaction. Occasional itching, that sort of thing. So...that's my guess. Here's hoping Ladyville chills out!

Marla said...

Yep, I agree with pp's. I'd say jock itch. OTC cream (not the spray with alcohol, bc that'll burn like hell, just the cream) should bring you some relief. =)

Andrea said...

It's worth a trip in to see your Dr. and get screened, as these things shouldn't be left untreated...they can get worse. Most likely its yeast, which doesn't always produce discharge or it could merely be a fungal infection from the moisture.

BEWARE of the Jock Itch med's, as some contain alcohol and that will burn. Try a powder...

Overall, call and discuss this with your nurse. When you are dealing with potential pregnancy it's not worth chancing. Sorry to be preachy, but just want you to stop itching!

Feel Better :)

Adventures in Baby Waiting was probably thinking of Murgdan at Concieve This's post on the matter.

Here is the post for your reference: http://murgdan.blogspot.com/2010/01/time-i-got-jock-itch-and-had-to-blow.html

(It's a funny one, had me laughing out loud inappropriately at work).

Sorry about your lady business, hope it gets better soon :-)

I swear it's the overage of hormones that does that. Just use some nasty cream stuff until the itching stops. My RE said to use the 7 day cream. I would still call and see what she says without you coming in.

i have to preface by saying i haven't read everyone else's comments (sorry guys, its been a long day) but i did see vagisil but i think if you had that in the house, you would be much better off right now! i would try to pick some up tomorrow, i like the vagisil wipes bc there isn't much of an ick factor and you already have a lot of stuff goin' on down there! for now, i would try a benadryl, a bath with epsom or kosher salt and blow dry your lady bits with a hair dryer on warm.
i hope that helps...

xoxo

I've had my share of ladyness misbehavior and associated itchy spawn (hello surprise latex allergy & yeasty nasties- oh and no cottage cheese to speak of unless you count my lardo thighs). Vagisil is a God send and the cold washcloth works well too for a temporary reprieve.

Hope it clears up soon. I wouldn't wish that personal tickle on my worst enemy.

sienna said...

did you get this figured out? i think it's vaginitis? i've had this happen a few times, but it wasn't a yeast infection. just another type of infection, and each time my gyno put a special creme in there and *voila*, i was better within a few days. i think he said it was vaginitis ... itches like a b*tch and no discharge, but lots of redness and really raw, right? *aiee*, if you can't ask it on the internet, you can't ask anywhere!

Kristin said...

It isn't an allergic reaction to the progesterone. You are just sensitive to it. You have a full blown case of progesterone suppository induced vaginitis. It SUCKS. I had that the whole first trimester with Gabe (until I could stop the suppositories).

I have no advice to offer, but looks like you've got a ton of great suggestions here! All I can say is NO FUN, and I hope one of these works...you've got enough going on down there without adding unwanted itchy feelings to the mix...poor thing!!

Anonymous said...

You could try a cool bath with some pau d'arco root. Good luck.

oh no! i totally thought yeast infection at first, but there is usually discharge with that (i, unfortunately, know from experience- ugh). hmmm, wish i could help, but these ladies seem to know more than me. get better soon!

V said...

Its most def a yeast infection because i used to suffer from these often before and after my diabetes diagnosis (there was sugar in my pee thanks to overtaxed kidneys and sugar in the vajayjay = BAD!).
Go for the 7 dayer where you have to pop a new fun tab in each day, it's the most effective because if you dont treat it it can come back.
ALSO your man may be carrying it now if you've been intimate in the meantime, and may too be getting the itch.
If he doesnt get treated you guys will continuing piggy backing it to each other.
Again, i've lived through this lovliness... lol ur not alone hehe

(happy to report been doin' fine for a very long while ;) )

Looks like you are allergic to shagging papa smurf....(it was papa smurf right?...please don't tell me it was brainy...)
In all seriousness...I have no idea what it could be short of an allergic reaction to something. I hope you feel better soon. Hugs!

Nixy said...

I second the Vagisil screening kit suggestion. It will tell you the likely hood that it's yeast, or something else.

HOWEVER, the progesterone may change the pH of your mucus, and make the test invalid... So I think you're looking at a trip to the doctor.

The over the counter external creams can't hurt to at least get you some relief. Ick! Hope it gets better soon!

sounds like thrush which you can get with hormone changes - easily treatable with a pill - it was one of my symptoms when I had a chemical pregnancy last August. Not to give you false hope..x
