Voodoo Doll

Don't get too alarmed. I'm not secretly punishing Irish Boy, my RE, the PCOS specialist, or any such person connected to my world of fertility drama. I'm not even taking out my Facebook frustrations after reading countless pregnancy announcements or seeing more belly shots than a drunk guy on Spring Break.

You should know by now, I'm talking about acupuncture! Yes, my weekly moments of pinned bliss are back. I had been out of routine with the ND for a while, but with the holidays now over, I, the self-proclaimed needle-phobe, has returned to the world of needle jabbing once again.

For those acupuncture virgins out there, don't panic. It's really not that bad. Honestly. If I can handle it, I would imagine kittens and babies could handle it. In fact, it's actually quite nice in a weird, I have a bunch of tiny needles in me, kind of way. Once pinned I can escape to my world of rainbows and unicorns (read: my happy place which doesn't really consist of rainbows or unicorns at all) and escape into a blissful zen-like state.

Compared to some of you out there who are doing acupuncture, my ND seems to really like using the needles. Lots of needles. Lots and lots and lots of needles. Some weeks I've counted close to 60 going in, making me a human voodoo doll. Currently, we're all about getting my cycle back on track. With my period going AWOL last month, likely thanks to being off of the Metformin and missing my regular acupuncture appointments, we're hoping to get things back on track. This means adding in some 'blood points' to the mix.

Don't barf. This isn't an Ebola crash and bleed out kind of deal. They sound worse than they are. Blood points are merely different spots on the body that stimulate the blood. Some of the points are in your hands, some your legs, and so forth. I also had one in my abdomen. The icky part of these points is that my ND will come in and "swirl" the various needles around to help get the ball rolling even more. It doesn't hurt, but it does feel somewhat odd at times. I take this to mean it's working!

Hopefully this also means that I will actually see a period this month. Because once that bitch shows up, we're getting the show back on the road and yours truly will be reunited with Wandy, Folly (follistim), and countless IM needles to, well, basically shove in my ass (okay, upper bum/hip quadrant.)

Come on, blood points!

In related news, I am working my way back up to my daily 1500 mg of Metformin. Thank you for all of the feedback on this in my last post - and to the slew of new faces posting comments, especially all of the SITS girls! Want to know more about SITS? Help me will on my period - it's time to get back to treatments!

I did acupuncture a lot last year. It was very odd and you are correct, zenlike. I will go back, but we are on a break right now, so that includes acu too. Good luck!

That is what I am doing tomorrow! I LOVE it! I feel a lot better when I am on schedule and doing it weekly. Have you ever had ones put in your ears...

Those ones for me are the WORST! Everything else I can handle. I am glad you are getting back to you normal routine.

Thanks for visiting my site. Our pugs also total 2. We have a Tan male (10yrs) and a black female. Of course she is the alpha!

No AF, that sucks. I've never had that issue, just fibroids. Even with a steady AF it never seemed to help in the ttc area. Acupuncture seems to be the popular thing these days. Always wanted to try it. The needles don't bother me. Funny enough, it's the lying there naked that is the cause of my issues!

I used to go to accupuncture to help make my cramps and bleeding a little bit better. I was always so bad at lying there and relaxing once the needles were in. I would get bored and restless. He would always come back to find needles had fallen out. You are so lucky you are able to relax. I used to think, wow, this must be so peaceful for a lot of people! I just have too much ADD for it. I used to think about how someone should invent a combo of accupuncture and therapy. The accupuncturist puts the needs in and then the therapist sits with you during the time.

I hope it works!!!

I stopped doing acupuncture over the holidays, and realized a lot of other non-fertility related problems came back too (insomnia, anexity for starters). When I returned last week, I slept like a baby for the 4 nights after. I think I'm going to need to make it a part of my everyday life. Well, not every day. Fortunately I found community acupuncture, which is WAY cheaper if you don't mind getting poked in front of a dozen other people...

Does it hurt when the needles go in? I have never tried it but I really want to and heard it's soo relaxing. :)
