Testing the Waters

Oh Internetz, like some of you out there, I am sick as all get out. I've gots me the flu something bad. Well, not horrifically bad, but bad enough to merit staying home from work and I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse.

I'm also dipping my toes back in the water that is fertility treatments. It is CD-34 for me and there is no sign of my ever elusive period just yet. My RE has prescribed Provera for me to start on CD-35 if it hasn't arrived by then.

So, like, tomorrow.

The kicker? She gave me a sympathetic look when she advised that I take a pregnancy test before I start it. Just in case.

Really? My husband has no sperm. Why don't I just pee on the money instead?

I don't know whether it's the Type A in me coming out and wanting to follow all of the rules or if I'm delusional from this flu but as I type, Irish Boy is out dutifully buying a pregnancy test "just in case." You'll likely hear my swearing where you are tomorrow morning when I get my usual negative results.

But tomorrow, for the first time ever, I am starting Provera.

I have no clue what that might do to me - so if you have advice or experience, please share!

Oh yeah, I guess this means I might be back in the game this month.

Good luck with the Provera. I am currently taking it and it's worked like a charm. I took it a few years ago with no response but trying again this year has worked. Last cycle AF showed up about 3 days after I was done with the Provera.

Praying for you...I hope it works!!

Ok... that line actually had me lol!

Sorry, I don't have any experience with Provera. I hope it gets you back on track!

Provera doesn't really affect me. A few times, I don't start my cycle until 2 or 3 days after my last pill, but these last few cycles, on day 3 of the pills it came.

Provera made me cranky and moody, but nothing horrible compared to other fertility meds I've been on. I hope you feel better soon and af shows up soon.

Ha ha! Each time I test I say "what a waste, next time I'll pee on a $10 bill and get the same result!" It's sad but it's true. Good luck with the Provera.

I also laughed out loud. But I commend you on your obedience to the nurse. GL with getting things started soon!

I'm with you, I recently poas and then stupidly remembered that DH has no sperm.
I've been on Provera twice. Both times I got AF within 5 days of stopping, no major side effects, maybe a little extra bitchiness. :)

Too funny. I had to read the pee on $ bit to my DH.

I pretty much said the same thing to my DH about peeing on money when the hospital called to tell me about my bloodwork & pregnancy test before surgery. I started laughing..poor lady had no idea about our story, but I wanted to be like come on, Ill be nice & save the insurance some money..I'm not pregnant!

I am currently on day three of taking Provera for the first time. I've never taken it before, so I can't tell you if it works or not. I am crossing my fingers it does since I am on CD 56!!I do feel EXTREMELY bloated, but so far that's about it. I did POAS before too because I KNEW they were going to ask me to! I'm rooting for you!

I can't even tell you how many times I've POAS "just in case" before starting some sort of medicine...usually an antibiotic because my body used to ONLY get sick in the 2ww. I hated doing it but of course we have to. Blah, blah, blah.

Good luck with the Provera. I've never taken it but have heard good things about it.

I've never taken Provera, but I hope it works for you...does your naturopath have an opinion on it? Sometimes they like to give a homeopathic remedy to lessen side effects from things. Sorry to hear you're laid up with the flu, too! Thanks for the image of you peeing on dollar bills! Ha-larious!!! :-)

Peeing on the money....I just might try that. Whatever works right? Watch out for the evil, evil provera. It sends me into a emotional hurricane.

I'm so sorry you're as sick as a dog! Hope the flu goes away quickly. I didn't know anything about Provera, till I googled it! Hope it works. Are you taking herbs everyday as well? Acupuncture alone isn't enough, but when combined with TCM herbs, they are very effective in regulating menstrual problems.

I also checked with my TCM doc about your husband-he has a 50/50% of success with TCM in normalizing the veins, but since it's been fixed by surgery, he definitely has more than 50% chance of success in getting his sperm production up. He will probably have to get into the TCM program seriously to work. Might be worth a try. My husband's sperm count's up, and he never had any side effects from his herb/acupuncture treatments.
